Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How do I book an appointment in San Francisco, New York or London?
A: Please send us an email at info@qipaobyjane.com and let us know that you would like to schedule a fitting in San Francisco, New York or London. We will get back to you within 24 hours.
Q: How do I book an appointment in Shanghai?
A: No appointment is neccessary in Shanghai and you are welcome to come into the Younique boutique during opening hours (every day from 10:00 to 22:00). If you would like to set up an individual consultation with the designer, please send us an email at info@qipaobyjane.com and let us know your particular requirements. We will get back to you within 24 hours.
Q: What if I do not live in San Francisco, New York City, London or Shanghai, but I want to order a qipao?
A: If you are not able to access our locations, then we suggest that you order a standard-fit qipao and find a local tailor to take the required measurements.
Q: What is the process for a custom-fit qipao?
A: For a custom-fit qipao, a minimum of three fittings are required in-store in San Francisco, New York, London or Shanghai. The first fitting will involve taking your measurements and finalizing your design. At your second fitting you will try on a cotton muslin version of your qipao. The third fitting will be to try on your actual silk qipao. If this qipao still needs alterations, a fourth and fifth fitting may be required. The entire process should take from 6-8 weeks in San Francisco, New York or London, and 3-4 weeks in Shanghai. If you need your qipao sooner please let us know and we can work with you to fit a tighter schedule.
Q: What is process for a standard-fit qipao?
A: Our "standard-fit" is actually still customized to your body, but measurements are provided by you. We will consult with you via email or phone on the design of your dress and send you a detailed set of instructions to take the 20+ measurements that we require. You can find a local tailor or, if none is available, a friend to take these measurements for you. Within 3 weeks, we will mail you a cotton muslin version of your qipao, which we recommend that you find a local tailor to pin to size on you if alterations are required. After you mail the pinned muslin back to Qipao by Jane, we will make your final qipao based on the pinned size and send it to you.
Q: What is the difference between a custom-fit and a standard-fit qipao?
A: Our custom-fit qipaos are fitted in-store in San Francisco, New York, London or Shanghai by one of our trained tailors, and include alterations for life. Our standard-fit qipaos are made to specification based on measurements provided by you. Both types are actually fitted to your figure, but in the custom-fit case the quality of fit is guaranteed, while in the standard case the fit will be only as good as the measurements and information you provide.
Q: Do I have to have a petite Asian figure to fit in a qipao?
A: Most certainly not! Whether you are curvy or straight, tall or short, the qipao is made to fit your contours and show it off to best advantage with a simple, elegant silhouette and the fabric of your choice.
